Discovering this simple truth has made a world of difference in my life and in the lives and businesses of my clients.
Taking charge of my internal narrative has helped me achieve things I thought were impossible, like completing the 90km Comrades Marathon and starting my own six figure pan-African consulting firm. So, whether I am working in a corporate environment or coaching a client through the intimate details of articulating their value, I rely on authentic and compelling narratives to deliver the results we want.
Exceptional communication skills are the secret weapons of successful leaders, and my journey has been no exception. While serving in leadership positions in private and listed companies, not-for-profits and commercial entities as well as community projects, I have relied on my ability to bring ideas to life through the power of well-crafted words. I help my clients do the same so they can reach their audiences across print, television, radio, online and live platforms.
My love for storytelling has lead me to host a podcast that showcases African leaders and the brands they are building. You can listen to The Thembe Khumalo Podcast here. You can also read my thoughts on personal branding, leadership and a whole lot more on my Medium blog here. I am also excited to be launching my first book, Words and Other Weapons this year, published by Carnelian Heart Publishing and available for purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other bookstores across the world.
I love helping Africans in leadership tell their best stories.
I look forward to working with you on yours.
- Thembe
Words and Other Weapons is an abstract literary art piece that refuses to categorise itself in any singular literary genre. Instead, it offers a scenic, panoramic window into the relationships women have with self and society, diligently exploring questions of identity and adulthood, motherhood and marriage, relationships and careers, among others, and how these are reconciled with the maddening complexities and uncertainties of the external world. Thembe Khumalo deploys a range of different writing styles from stream of consciousness to gossipy chic lit, news reports to detailed dialogue and the end result for the introspective reader, is a collection that provides a bittersweet treat with layers of unique insights that keep the mind reflective long after the last page is turned.
